Gullfoss Golden Waterfall
Gullfoss or 'Golden Falls' is one of Iceland's most iconic and beloved waterfalls. It is located in the canyon of the Hvita River in southwestern Iceland. From Iceland's capital, it's only a two-hour drive to the waterfall. Visitors to Iceland prioritize stopping to visit and enjoy the natural scenery in Gullfoss.
When coming to Gullfoss, tourists can witness with their own eyes the majestic and wild waterfalls, showing extraordinary vitality, not being dominated, tamed or interfered with by human hands. Gullfoss consists of two waterfalls. The first, shorter waterfall is 11 meters (36 feet) high, while the second is 21 meters (69 feet) high. The canyon walls on both sides of the waterfall rise to 70 meters (230 feet), descending into the Gullfossgjúfur gorge. In summer, about 140 cubic meters (459 cubic feet) of water flows down the falls every second, while in winter, that number drops to about 109 cubic meters (358 cubic feet). Standing here, visitors will not be able to help but admire when witnessing the great intrinsic power of this waterfall.
As a popular sightseeing spot, Gullfoss almost always appears on tours in Iceland. In addition to enjoying the majestic nature of the waterfall, visitors can enjoy the scenery from Gullfoss Cafe - which was built to serve the needs of eating and resting while visiting. Local food and drinks make the culinary experience complete. There is also an on-site shop where visitors can view and purchase traditional Icelandic souvenirs.
