Ease Up on Soy

Soy is quite a controversial food product, often used by vegans and vegetarians to satisfy their daily requirements for protein. The main problem with soy is that it contains substances known under the term goitrogens. Goitrogens have been proven to reflect negatively on thyroid function because they block iodine absorption in the body.

It is probably advisable to consume soy in moderation, even if current research suggests it is generally safe. Levothyroxine is typically used as a thyroid hormone replacement in patients with thyroid disease. Take this drug on an empty stomach if possible. Before eating, wait 30 to 60 minutes. Wait till four hours have passed since taking your prescription before eating soy. Because soy can interfere with your body's ability to absorb levothyroxine, evidence has clearly proven this.
