Ecole Polytechnique
The École Polytechnique was founded in 1794 in response to a shortage of engineers and high-ranking administrators in France. The 225-year-old École Polytechnique is a product of the French Revolution and the Age of Enlightenment. The institution has left a legacy of scientific brilliance and public service since its inception. The university is a member of the Conference of Deans of French Engineering Schools.
The École Polytechnique is a higher education institution overseen by the French Ministry of Defense's General Directorate for Armament (administratively speaking, it is a national public establishment of an administrative character). It serves two functions: it is an engineering school that trains civilian engineers and scientists, as well as an officer training facility for the three French armies. These two components are part of the same project to provide a scientific and technological elite to the French state.
