Elvis is rumored to have shot his own television when Robert Goulet appeared on the screen in one strange but infamous occasion. According to a myth that arose, Presley killed the TV because he detested Goulet and chose not to change the channel. Kevin Kern from the Graceland museum, however, disproved that rumor, claiming that Presley and Goulet were in fact close friends and that Elvis simply enjoyed shooting things for no apparent reason.

Presley
, who is well-known for joining the army in 1958, underwent the same training as every other soldier while serving in the army. He received a marksman award and was labeled as a sharpshooter with a handgun as he progressed through basic training. That meant that, with a handgun, he was able to hit between 30 and 35 of the 40 targets, placing him slightly above marksman and below expert, who needed 36 hits. His proficiency with firearms turned into a lifetime obsession with them, and he reportedly had 32 handguns, a shotgun, and a machine gun.
