Engineering Project Management Specialization
To manage projects more efficiently and successfully, master techniques and tools. Today's work world is fiercely competitive, ever-changing, and tough to navigate. Employees who do not manage one or more projects or project segments early in their careers are unlikely to advance to positions of leadership.
The goal of this Specialization, which is brought to you by the Rice Center for Engineering Leadership and the team behind the engineering management master's program, is to provide you with the tools to more effectively and successfully manage projects; to provide you with a solid foundation of knowledge, skills, and confidence that will set you apart and give you a competitive edge as you progress toward leadership positions.
The Project Management Specialization is intended to provide as an introduction to project management. It's for engineers who want to improve their project management abilities in a new leadership role or in preparation for their first leadership role. You will prepare important Project Execution Plan papers using available templates as part of the Specialization.
Learners will evaluate an engineering case study and, based on the facts of the case, construct a Project Charter, a Stakeholder Engagement Matrix, Statement of Work, Work Breakdown Structure, Project Schedule, Project Estimate, Project Risk Matrix, and Project Cause and Effect Diagram. The students will also be asked to use the Earned Value approach to calculate project progress.
