Fumaça Waterfall
One of the most beautiful waterfalls in Brazil is Fumaça Falls. It is the second-highest waterfall in Brazil with a 1,115-foot drop, is one of Chapada Diamantina's most enchanted landscapes (340m). The Portuguese word for smoke is fumaça. The reason the waterfall has this name is that it is so high because the water sprays out before it hits the pool below, producing a showy mist.
While both the lower and higher portions of Fumaça Falls can be visited, most visitors choose to climb up to the upper portion because it is less strenuous. It shouldn't take more than 6 hours to complete the easy 12-kilometer (7.5-mile) hike, including time spent at the waterfall.
However, in order to observe the water turning to smoke from the top of the falls, you must first scramble out onto the clifftop, which hangs over the canyon. The bottom trek is difficult for adventurers and is 22.4 miles (36 km) long.
