Gammarth

The beaches of Gammarth, a popular respectable resort on the outskirts of the Tunisian capital, are about 10 kilometers long, located along the northern coast of the Mediterranean Sea.

Sandy beaches covered with golden sands prevail. Some of them are up to 300m wide. The road to the water slopes slightly, and the bottom is sand. Such places are preferred by families with young children and those with no swimming experience. There are also rocky beaches with narrow lanes, and the shore and bottom are covered with rocks. The sea near the Gammarth coast is calmer than in Hammamet or Djerba, with high waves, comfortable for surfers, frequent highs.

Gammarth is not the most popular resort. Wealthy tourists from Western Europe, Canada, and the United States stay here to swim in hotel lots. There are no Russian tourists. The beaches are half empty and very quiet.

The center of the capital is 18 km from Gammarth. In 5 km - ruins of Carthage with Punic tomb of Tophet, ruins of Emperor Antoninus Pius, Roman villa, old theater, ancient port. The picturesque Andalusian village of Sidi Bou Said sits on a hill by the Gulf of Carthage. Gammarth can be reached from Tunisia Airport, 10 km from the resort, by taxi or bus. Intercity buses, shuttles, and trains run from Monastir Airport to Gammarth.
