Monastir
Monastir is a city in Tunisia 160 km from Tunis. Set along a stunning coastline with azure seas and golden sands, Monastir is a pleasant seaside resort, a historic town steeped in tradition, and one of the best tourist attractions in North America.
Under the protection of the ridge, one of Tunisia's most impressive fortresses, the heart of Monastir, the fishing port, marina, and background of villages and orchards make it a destination lively and engaging.
When visiting Monastir, be sure to stop by Ribat, one of the oldest Arab fortresses in Africa, featured in films like Jesus of Nazareth (1977). This ancient building was built in AD 796, so it bears much of the history of Monastir and Tunisia.
