Founded in 1882 by George Weston, the company now includes the Choice Properties real estate investment trust and Loblaw Companies Limited, Canada's largest supermarket retailer, in which it owns a majority stake. President's Choice, No Name, and Joe Fresh are retail brands. In 2022, FGF Brands purchased the former Weston Bakeries division, which included the brand: Wonder, Country Harvest, D'Italiano, Ready Bake, and Gadoua. The Weston family, which holds a controlling stake in George Weston Limited, controls the company.
George Weston operates in two segments: Loblaw Companies Limited, Canada's largest food and drug retailer as well as a financial services provider, and Choice Properties Real Estate Investment Trust, Canada's largest and most diversified REIT.
