Philips
Philips Canada, one of the largest manufacturing companies in Canada, was established in 1941 with the acquisition of Small Electric Motors Limited. It is widely used in diagnostic and therapeutic systems, lighting technologies, shavers, and consumer electronics. The Canadian headquarters are located in Markham, Ontario.
Philips made lighting goods in two Canadian factories for many years. The London, Ontario, facility first opened its doors in 1971. It manufactured A19 lamps including the "Royale" long-life bulbs, PAR38 lamps, and T19 lamps which were originally designed by Westinghouse. In May 2003, Philips announced the closure of the facility. After purchasing Westinghouse's lamp division in 1983, Philips continues to operate the Trois-Rivières, Quebec plant. This factory was closed by Philips a few years later, in the late 1980s.
Consumer electronics and electrical products (including small domestic appliances, shavers, beauty appliances, mother and childcare appliances, electric toothbrushes, and coffee makers (products such as Smart Phones, audio equipment, Blu-ray players, computer accessories, and televisions are sold under license); and healthcare products (including CT scanners, ECG equipment, mammography equipment, monitoring equipment, MRI scanners, radiography equipment, radiography equipment, ultrasound equipment and X-ray equipment) are Philips' core products.
