Great Dane

The Great Dane is a domestic dog breed renowned for its size and calm temperament. Along with the Irish Wolfhound, the Great Dane is regarded as the tallest breed in the world. The Great Dane is currently the tallest dog in the world according to the Guinness Book of Records. The Great Dane was selected as Pennsylvania's official dog in 1965.

The Great Dane is thought to have first emerged in Ancient Greece around 3000 BC. It has since been discovered in Egypt, Rome, and temples in Babylonia. The Old English Mastiff could be the Great Dane's ancestor, and in addition to being crossed with the Irish hound, the Greyhound also passed along genes to the Great Dane.

They develop into the Mastiff breed's big, strong dogs. They are known as the "giants," and in addition to being employed for protection, towing, and tracking, they are powerful enough to take on bears, wild boars, and several other large animals.

The Great Dane is a large dog with a muscular and compact body that is not bulky, and it is recognized by the Guinness Book of World Records as the tallest dog in the world. They have sinewy, bulging calves, long, robust legs with straight forelegs, and exceptionally muscular rear legs. They can grow to a height of 71 to 86 cm and weigh 45 to 90 kg, depending on their state of maturity.
