Newfoundland

A big worker dog, the Newfoundland. They might be white, grey, brown, or black. Prior to joining the Canadian confederation, the Dominion of Newfoundland, however, only accepted black and Landseer (white-and-black) colored dogs as legitimate members of the breed. They were initially developed in Newfoundland as working dogs for fishermen. Newfoundlands are renowned for their enormous size, sharp intelligence, immense power, serenity, affection for youngsters, and loyalty. Because of their strong physique, thick double coat, webbed paws, and swimming prowess, they excel at water rescue and lifesaving.

Webbed paws and a waterproof coat are characteristics of Newfoundlands, sometimes known as "Newfs" or "Newfies." However, some Newfoundlands have been known to weigh over 90 kg (200 lb), and the largest on record weighed 120 kg and measured over 1.8 m (6 ft) from nose to tail, ranking it among the largest of dog breeds. Males typically weigh 65-80 kg, and females 55-65 kg, placing them in the "Giant" weight range. They can reach shoulder heights of 56–76 cm.

The Newfoundland's massive bones give it heft, and its large muscles give it the strength it needs to withstand choppy seas and strong tides. These dogs' enormous lung capacity allows them to swim for very long distances, and their thick, oily, and waterproof double coat shields them from the freezing water's chill. The dog sheds a lot and is difficult to groom because of the double coat. The dog drools, especially in the heat, due to the jowls and sagging lips.
