Green Turtle Cay
Green Turtle Cay in the Abacos is like going back in time to the old Bahamas as you stroll through its streets. This five-kilometre-long island, located east of Great Abaco, is a popular retreat for those seeking peace and quiet. New Plymouth, a peaceful community of picket-fenced pastel cottages scattered with a few modest stores and museums, relies heavily on golf carts as its primary form of transportation.
Visitors may witness locals bring in their catch of crawfish and conch fishing boats moored in the harbour. One of the most popular activities here is bonefishing. Beautiful reef-fringed beaches and crystal-clear waters abound on the island, providing excellent swimming, diving, snorkelling, and boating options.
Hurricane Dorian, a category 5 storm, wreaked havoc on the island in 2019. Locals are working tirelessly to rebuild tourist destinations. The people, as well as the gorgeous reefs and beaches, are the true attractions of this island, and they are eagerly awaiting tourists. The Green Turtle Club & Marina, one of the island's best resorts, has reopened following the hurricane. Treasure Cay on Great Abaco Island is a 10-minute ferry journey away from Green Turtle Cay.
