Harvest Festival
Harvest Festival, also known as New Rice Festival or Ha Nguyen Festival, is the most important festival in the system of traditional festivals of the ethnic groups in Vietnam. The celebration of new rice is as important to the ethnic minorities as the New Year of the Kinh people.
For ethnic minorities in the Central Highlands, the god of rice is respected no less than other gods. The worshiping ceremony is annually held with the purpose of celebrating favorable crops and to make offerings to the gods who have helped the villagers get a fruitful harvest.
Depending on each ethnic group, organizations will have different characteristics, but the common point is sacrifices, eating new rice… For example, the Bana's new rice-eating ceremony takes place only for three days, when the harvest has begun.
