Hassanal Bolkiah
Hassanal Bolkiah ibni Omar Ali Saifuddien (born 15 July 1946) is Brunei's 29th Sultan and Yang di-Pertuan, and has served as Prime Minister since the country's independence from the United Kingdom in 1984. He is one of the world's remaining absolute rulers. Following his father's resignation on 5 October 1967, he succeeded to the throne as Sultan of Brunei as the oldest son of Sultan Omar Ali Saifuddien III and Raja Isteri (Queen) Pengiran Anak Damit.
Hassanal Bolkiah is said to be one of the richest politicians in the planet. The sultan's entire peak net worth was assessed to be US$20 billion by Forbes in 2008. The Sultan is the world's second-longest reigning monarch, after Queen Elizabeth II. The Sultan's Golden Jubilee, which marked the 50th year of his tenure on the throne, was held on October 5, 2017.
The sultan formerly had one of the world's greatest private automobile collections, with some 2,500 vehicles purchased by his brother Jefri Bolkiah for himself, the sultan, and other members of the royal family to indulge their automotive love. The automobile collection and Prince Jefri's other luxuries cost billions of dollars, putting him in financial turmoil and putting the royal family in jeopardy. The automobile collection was abandoned; the majority of the non-garaged cars were beyond repair, and the remaining cars were auctioned.
