Michael Bloomberg

Michael Rubens Bloomberg is an American businessman, politician, philanthropist, and author who was born on February 14, 1942. Bloomberg L.P. is his company, and he is the primary owner, co-founder, and CEO. He served as Mayor of New York City from 2002 to 2013, and he ran for President of the United States as a Democrat in 2020.


Bloomberg was chosen as the city's 108th mayor and the third Jewish mayor in the city's history. He was first elected in 2001 and served three terms in a row, earning re-election in 2005 and 2009. Bloomberg created a technocratic management style while pursuing socially liberal and economically moderate ideas.


By the end of 2014, he had returned to Bloomberg L.P. as CEO after a brief period as a full-time philanthropist. Bloomberg announced his candidacy for the Democratic nomination for president of the United States in the 2020 election in November 2019. His campaign came to an end in March 2020, with only 61 delegates elected. Bloomberg's campaign cost $935 million, breaking the record for the most costly presidential primary campaign in the United States.


Bloomberg was selected to lead the Defense Innovation Board in February 2022. Forbes listed him as the sixteenth-richest person in the world in March 2022, with an estimated net worth of US$70 billion, and 14th in the Forbes 400, with a net value of $55 billion. Bloomberg has donated $8.2 billion to humanitarian causes since signing The Giving Pledge.
