Have Antibacterial Properties and Improve Respiratory Health
The oil generated when horseradish is chopped, allyl isothiocyanate, may have potent antibacterial capabilities. According to research, it may be effective against a variety of harmful bacteria, including E. coli, H. pylori, and Salmonella. In one test-tube investigation, isothiocyanates isolated from horseradish killed six different species of oral bacteria. Another research in test tubes discovered that these isothiocyanates inhibited the growth of four species of fungus that may cause persistent nail infections. Isothiocyanates may bind to certain enzymes to inhibit bacterial cell development, while the exact process is unknown.
Horseradish consumption is known to create a burning feeling in the sinuses, nose, and throat. As a result, it's frequently used to treat colds and respiratory problems. A supplement combining 80 mg of dried horseradish and 200 mg of nasturtium was shown to be as effective as a standard antibiotic in treating acute sinus infections and bronchitis in one trial of over 1,500 patients.
