Indian Institute of Management Kozhikode
The Indian Institute of Management Kozhikode (IIM Kozhikode or IIMK) is a self-governing public business school in Calicut (Kozhikode), Kerala. The institute, founded in 1996 by the Government of India in partnership with the State Government of Kerala, is one of 20 Indian Institutes of Management (IIMs). It was the fifth IIM to open its doors. The institute engages in a wide range of academic activities in management education, including research, teaching, and training, as well as consulting and intellectual infrastructure development. The institute emphasizes analytical skills development and a focus on global and cross-cultural issues while balancing business demands and social concerns.
The main campus is in Kunnamangalam, a suburb of Kozhikode (previously known as Calicut) in Kerala. Kozhikode is Kerala's second-largest city. The campus is spread out over two hills in the Western Ghats. The campus has residential facilities for students, faculty, and visitors in addition to classrooms. The campus has 17 hostels to house the approximately 900 students who are required to live on campus. The campus, which is spread across 111 acres of land, relies on rainwater harvesting as its primary source of water.
IIM Kozhikode, like all IIMs, is a self-contained institution under the Ministry of Human Resources Development of the Government of India. The institute is free to create its own curriculum and hire faculty. Union Minister Kapil Sibal announced in April 2011 that the government is considering increasing the autonomy of IIMs by allowing them to choose the director and chairman of the Board of Directors. The Association of MBAs has granted international accreditation to the PP (Postgraduate Programme) and EPP (Executive Postgraduate Programme) courses (AMBA).
