International Human Rights

At the Josef Korbel School of International Studies at the University of Denver in the United States, Jack Donnelly holds the title of Andrew W. Mellon Professor of International Relations. The Bill and Connie Bowen Odyssey Professor of Politics at Hendrix College in the United States is Daniel J. Whelan.

The sixth edition of International Human Rights, which has been completely updated, looks at how nations and other international actors have dealt with human rights issues after the end of World War II. In this exceptional textbook, theory, history, international and regional institutions, and the function of transnational actors in the defense and advancement of human rights are given considerable emphasis. Its goal is to examine the challenging and divisive political issues surrounding human rights and how they have been handled at the national, regional, and especially international levels.

Key elements consist of:

  • significantly updated throughout, with fresh content on LGBTQ rights in Africa, Indigenous rights in Guatemala, the Rohingya crisis in Myanmar, and a new chapter on human rights and development;
  • in-text elements to encourage class debate and in-depth investigation of themes, such as discussion questions, suggested readings, case studies, and "problems";
  • clearly organized and thorough coverage of the subject in a brief manner.

For courses and modules in human rights, politics and international relations, law, criminal justice, sociology, social work, public administration, and international development, International Human Rights is required reading.
