At Northwestern University in Illinois, Ian Hurd teaches political science and oversees the Weinberg College Center for International and Area Studies. He also wrote How to Do Things With International Law (2017) and After Anarchy: Legitimacy and Power in the UN Security Council (2007), the latter of which was awarded the 2008 Chadwick F. Alger Prize by the International Studies Association. He co-edited The UN Security Council and the Politics of International Authority and the Oxford Handbook of International Organization.
