International School of Budapest
The International School of Budapest (ISB) is Hungary's most prominent bilingual school that teaches English and Hungarian. It has modern buildings with good classrooms, a courtyard with big trees, and classes with 14-18 students on average. It's for kids aged 5 to 18 and covers kindergarten, primary, and high school.
ISB is officially recognized as a Cambridge International School, an IB World School, and a private Hungarian school. In the preparatory grade at ISB, they teach things similar to what kids learn in Hungarian kindergartens but for kids under six. If a child is older than six, they can join preparatory education with permission from the Committee of Experts or the Education Office.
Cambridge International Examinations officially approved ISB's program, a set of lessons accepted worldwide. ISB also became an IB World School and started offering the IB Diploma Programme for eligible Grade 11 students in September 2020.
ISB's way of teaching is interesting because they mix the skill-based learning from Cambridge with the knowledge-based learning from the Hungarian curriculum. The International Academic Program follows the Cambridge International Curriculum, while the Bilingual Academic Program combines the Hungarian National Curriculum with Cambridge's curriculum.
ISB cares about its staff, with an average staff time of 6 years. Some teachers have been there for more than ten years. Students can take official Cambridge exams at the end of Grades 5, 8, and 10. The Hungarian community at ISB helps foreign or returning families join the Hungarian social life. This makes it easy for foreign kids to fit into the Hungarian community while sharing new things with their friends.
