Johnny Tsunami (1999)
Brandon Barker is best known for two projects: NBC's One World (which many people may not remember) and the early Disney Chanel Original Movie Johnny Tsunami, which many Disney fans are familiar with. The movie was nominated for the Humanitas Prize in the category of Children's Live-Action in 2000. Johnny Kapahala: Back on Board, the film's sequel, was released in 2007.
Johnny Tsunami was one of the network's early hit movies, and it tells the story of a kid from Hawaii (who obviously loves surfing) who has to adjust after his family relocates to Vermont. As a result, instead of being a surfer, he becomes a natural snowboarder. It's a simple premise, but the film was a lot of fun, and its "fish out of water" story is one of the best the network has ever told.
