Karlstad University is a Swedish state university and among the Most Famous Universities in Sweden, located in Karlstad. It began as the University of Gothenburg's Karlstad campus in 1967, and in 1977, it became an autonomous university college, which was awarded full university status by the Swedish government in 1999. In the humanities, social studies, science, technology, teaching, health care, and the arts, the university offers roughly 40 educational programs, 30 program extensions, and 900 courses. It currently has around 16,000 students and 1,200 employees. Karlstad University Press is the name of the university press. Johan Sterte is the current Rector.
