Lund University is a public research university in Sweden and one of the oldest universities in northern Europe. The university lies in the city of Lund, in the Swedish region of Scania. It dates back to 1425, when a Franciscan general studium was established in Lund. The Karolinska Institute is a research-driven medical university in Solna, Sweden, which is part of the Stockholm metropolitan region. The Karolinska Institute is routinely listed among the greatest medical schools in the world, with a global ranking of 6th in medicine in 2021. The Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine is awarded by the Nobel Assembly at the Karolinska Institute. The assembly is made up of fifty professors from the university's several medical fields.
