Katy Perry is a singer, songwriter, and television judge from the United States. She is regarded for influencing mainstream music during the 2010s decade. Perry began her gospel music career at the age of 16 when she released Katy Hudson (2001), a commercially unsuccessful debut album on Red Hill Records. Perry rose to prominence with her second album and big label debut, One of the Boys (2008), a pop rock record that featured her first hit "I Kissed a Girl" and follow-up "Hot n Cold", which peaked at number one and number three on the Billboard Hot 100 in the United States, respectively. Teenage Dream (2010) scored five number-one singles in the United States, making it the first album by a female performer to do so. Perry became the first artist to have multiple videos on Vevo exceeding one billion views, with music videos for "Roar" and "Dark Horse".
Perry is one of the most successful performers of all time, having sold over 143 million albums worldwide. All of her Capitol-released studio albums have surpassed one billion Spotify streams. She has nine number-one singles in the United States, three number-one albums, and numerous awards, including four Guinness World Records, five Billboard Music Awards, five American Music Awards, a Brit Award, and a Juno Award. From 2011 to 2019, Perry was named on Forbes' yearly list of the highest-earning women in music. Her halftime performance during Super Bowl XLIX was the most-watched halftime show in television history.
