Lac de Gaube
The Lac de Gaube, nestled in the Pyrenees mountains on the French-Spanish border, is one of the region's attractions. Turquoise-blue Gaube Lake is surrounded by Pyrenean peaks that rise over 2,000 meters above sea level, giving a region of extraordinary natural beauty.
The Pic du Vignemale, the highest mountain in the Pyrenees Mountains, is mirrored in the lake's crystalline waters. This breathtaking location is popular with walkers and hikers and can be reached by cable car or, even better, in an hour on foot from the Bridge of Spain (Pont d'Espagne) at Cauterets. Those seeking solitude and stunning Alpine landscape will like this lake. You may walk here from the Pont d'Espagne, which is close to the Cauterets spa and ski resort. The stroll along an easy hiking trail takes around an hour to complete.
