Lac de Sainte-Croix
The Lac de Sainte-Croix is a popular spot for water activities such as boating, sailing, and windsurfing in Provence. The lake is perfectly planned to welcome tourists, with various settlements and beaches around the shoreline.
Originally part of the Verdon River, the Sainte-Croix Dam was built in 1973 to create this artificial lake. The fact that the lake is man-made, however, does not take away from its beauty. The lake's crystal-clear blue waters are surrounded by a classic Mediterranean scenery of shrub-covered hillsides. Moustiers-Sainte-Marie, one of the Plus Beaux Villages de France, lies less than 10 kilometers from the lake. A small village of about 700 permanent people lives in attractive ancient buildings with pastel-painted shutters and red-tiled roofs perched on the rocky limestone highland slopes. Locally owned shops, small bistros, and gourmet restaurants, as well as hotels, gîtes, and bed & breakfasts, abound throughout the village.
