Lacto-ovo vegetarian diet
From the perspective of some people, lacto-ovo vegetarian is similar to the most traditional vegetarian diet. You wouldn't eat meat or fish in this variation, but you would still include eggs and dairy products in your diet.
The Latin word lac, which means milk, is the root of the prefix "lacto", which means dairy goods or cow's milk. Milk can only be produced by mammals like cows. The Latin word ovum, which means egg, is where the prefix "ovo" originates from. When you eat a lacto-ovo vegetarian diet, you must exclude all animal-derived foods including beef, fish, chicken, and pork while including dairy products like eggs, milk, cheese, butter, yogurt, sour cream, and ice cream. Some people choose this variation for religious or cultural reasons. For instance, followers of Buddhism and Hinduism may follow a lacto-ovo vegetarian diet.
