Ladera Resort
The 37 suites at St. Lucia's adults-only Ladera Resort all have an open wall – like a patio, but without the door – facing the dramatic Pitons and the Caribbean Sea, prompting guests to appreciate their magnificent surroundings. (Although the lack of a fourth wall elevates luxury to new heights, don't be surprised if you end up sharing your room with a harmless lizard or two.) Private plunge pools (some with waterfalls and swings) are also available, as are minibars, pillow-top mattresses, and kits containing binoculars, star charts, slippers, and eye masks. Ladera is not directly on a beach because it is located on a ridge at 1,100 feet.
Ladera does, however, offer a complimentary shuttle service to Sugar Beach on the island's western side. Ladera also has a slew of fee-based activities available, ranging from a bartending class to a guided Saturday market tour to a sailing and snorkeling daytrip to Marigot Bay. Arrange for an outdoor massage at The Spa at Ladera to enjoy the mountains in a more relaxing setting. Previous visitors recommended that you try the field-to-fork eats at Dasheene, the resort's restaurant. All suite rates include daily breakfast; those who intend to eat mostly on-site for lunch and dinner can purchase a partial or all-inclusive meal plan.
