Lady Vengeance
Lady Vengeance is a 2005 South Korean psychological thriller film directed by Park Chan-wook. Following Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance (2002) and Oldboy (2003), this is the third and final installment in Park's Vengeance Trilogy (2003). Lee Young-ae plays Lee Geum-ja, a woman who has been released from prison after serving a sentence for a murder she did not commit. The film depicts her quest for vengeance against the true murderer.
The film premiered in South Korea on July 29, 2005, and competed for the Golden Lion at the 62nd Venice International Film Festival in September 2005. Although it did not win in the competition, it did receive Cinema of the Future, the Young Lion Award, and the Best Innovated Film Award in the non-competition section. At the 26th Blue Dragon Film Awards, it was named Best Film. The film had its US premiere at the New York Film Festival on September 30, 2005. It opened in limited release in North American theaters on May 5, 2006, to positive reviews from critics.
