West Palace is a South Korean television series that aired in 1995 and starred Lee Young-ae, Kim Kyu-chul, and Lee Bo-hee. From July 7 to December 26, 1995, it aired 52 episodes on KBS2 on Mondays and Tuesdays at 21:40. The story of West Palace sheds light on events that occurred during the Joseon Dynasty in the 17th century, during the reign of Prince Gwanghae.

The story revolves around Gwanghaegun of Joseon and his conflict with his stepmother, Queen Inmok, as well as his scheming concubine, Kim Gae-shi. Crown Prince Gwanghae, the regent Crown Prince, bestows Seung-eun upon Kim Gae-shi (played by Lee Young-ae). Despite receiving Seung-eun, Kim already has a lover, Won-pyo (played by Kim Bo-sung), an excellent swordsman who enters the palace to be with her. Won-pyo, on the other hand, dies while attempting to protect her during the rebellion. Meanwhile, Queen Inmok (portrayed by Lee Bo-hee) is a virtuous lady that fell victim to palace politics and is subsequently banished to the West Palace along with her children, Princess Jeongmyeong (portrayed by Park Rusia) and Grand Prince Yeongchang (portrayed by Choi Kang-won) after her stepson, Gwanghaegun, is bewitched by his scheming concubine, Kim Gae-shi, whose ambitions and insatiable thirst for power leads to her downfall.
