Lagoas Cufada Natural Park
Home to hippos and various antelope shells, including giant mantises, Lagoas Cufada is a diverse natural wonderland. You'll find herds of buffalo and African hyenas, Nile crocodiles, and elusive cheetahs.
This beautiful natural park is one of the most biodiverse areas in Guinea-Bissau, nestled between the Rio Grande de Buba to the south and the vast Corubal to the north. It is truly one of the best places to visit in Guinea-Bissau. Consisting of three lagoons (Biorna, Bedasse, and Cufada), this park has the largest freshwater reserve in the country, an important detail for the survival of some rare species of flora and fauna.
The reserve's name is derived from the numerous lagoons and marsh habitats that erupt along its borders. And in the middle are the canopy of oil palm trees, where you can see chimpanzees swinging from the branches!
Kayaking through calm waters in the early morning amid chirping birds makes an effort to get here well worth it. There is a lookout station where you can sit, appreciate the view, and mark sightings. There are also African buffalo, antelope, hyena, white hippo, and crocodile in the park.
