Las Terrenas, on the Dominican Republic's north coast, was previously a modest fishing community. All of that changed in 1946, when the country's president ordered Santo Domingo's rural population to come here and work as farmers and fisherman.


Las Terrenas is becoming a popular tourist destination due to its beautiful sceneries, white sand beaches, and crystal blue ocean water. Because it's only a two-hour trip from the capital, it's popular with both tourists and Dominicans. Playas el Portillo and Las Ballenas are two of the best beaches in the area. Las Terrenas is also a great site to see dolphins and whales.
