Samana, the capital of the same-named province, is a lovely, ancient town on northern Samana Bay. Its greatest claim to fame is that it was Christopher Columbus' final visit in the New World before returning to Spain in 1493.

Between January and March, hundreds of humpback whales migrate to the area to give birth, making it an excellent site to go whale-watching. Samana is the Dominican Republic's tourism capital during these months. Several renowned pitchers, like Wily Peralta, grew up here, which may be of interest to baseball aficionados.

Santo Domingo is the capital and largest city of the Dominican Republic, with the largest metropolitan area in the Caribbean. It is the earliest European town in the Americas, having been founded in 1496 on the Ozama River.

It also boasts a number of other firsts in the New World, including the Spanish empire's capital, a fortress (Alcazar de Colon), a monastery, a cathedral (Cathedral Santa Maria la Menor), and a university. The historic area of Santo Domingo, where you'll discover grand structures representing Middle Ages architecture, is, of course, the greatest site to take in this rich history. The Fortaleza Ozama, the Americas' oldest fortification, may also be seen.

The Lemon waterfall, El Limon Waterfall, does not live up to its name. El Limon Waterfall, on the other hand, is a beautiful waterfall in the Dominican Republic's Atlantic Coast that descends 50 meters (170 feet).

Because you'll have to cross multiple rivers on horseback (the usual method to get there), getting there can be a steamy and wet experience, but once there, you can cool down in the stunning swimming hole at the foot of the falls. If you've chosen to hike the 40-minute trek across occasionally steep terrain, you'll probably need the dip even more.

While beachcombing on Playa Rincon, you may be treading on history: it's one of two spots in the Dominican Republic where Spanish explorer Christopher Columbus is said to have first set foot in 1492.

Even if it isn't, you'll love strolling down the soft sandy beach, which is about two miles long, so there's plenty of room for everyone, but you may have to share the beach with debris driven in by the waves.

Playa Rincon is still regarded as one of the Caribbean's most stunning beaches. A 20-minute boat journey from Las Galeras will take you there.

Las Terrenas is becoming a popular tourist destination due to its beautiful sceneries, white sand beaches, and crystal blue ocean water. Because it's only a two-hour trip from the capital, it's popular with both tourists and Dominicans. Playas el Portillo and Las Ballenas are two of the best beaches in the area. Las Terrenas is also a great site to see dolphins and whales.
