Lobsterfest
Belize's clever method of commemorating the start of lobster season is the different Lobsterfest festivities. It takes place in four sections of the nation, beginning in mid-June, in Belize City, the northern cayes, and the southern coast: Caye Caulker, San Pedro, and Placencia. The fun consists of three-day long weekends (San Pedro's fest lasts a week), with plenty of outdoor food booths serving everyone's favorite seafood prepared fresh in a variety of ways, from lobster on the grill to lobster thermidor, lobster ceviche (which is ideal since the conch season closes in June), lobster kebabs, and even lobster chowder.
On Lobsterfest, there are weird beauty pageants (yep, some candidates dress as lobsters), beverages strong enough to drown a fish, reggae and Belizean music performances, and, of course, all-day and night beach parties and street festivals.
