L'Oréal S.A. is a French group specializing in personal care products with headquarters in Clichy, Hauts-de-Seine and a registered office in Paris. It is also the number one corporation in the world in the cosmetics industry, focusing focuses on hair dye, skin care, sunscreen, makeup, fragrance and hair care products.
On July 30, 1909, a 28-year-old chemist named Eugène Schueller founded the Société Française de Teintures Inoffensives pour Cheveux (French Safe Hair Dye Company). The current owner is Françoise Bettencourt and her children hold nearly 33.2% of the shares of the group and their assets are estimated to be more than $75 billion in 2020.
L'Oréal has six research and development centers worldwide: two in France: Aulnay and Chevilly; one in the United States: Clark, New Jersey; one in Japan: Kawasaki, Kanagawa Prefecture; in 2005, one branch was established in Shanghai, China and one in India. A futuristic facility in the US located in Berkeley Heights, New Jersey.
