Lucerne
Lucerne is a picturesque town on Lake Lucerne in central Switzerland, surrounded by snowcapped mountains and ancient architecture. The historic attractions, busy town squares, boutique stores, and old churches can all be found in this lovely city's old town. The Musegg Wall and its towers (the intact defenses date back to the 13th century) and Europe's oldest wooden covered bridge, the must-see Chapel Bridge, which was originally erected in the 1330s, are among the top attractions. Those searching for a once-in-a-lifetime experience may also take a cable car to Mount Pilatus, which offers breathtaking views of Lake Lucerne and a variety of activities.
The Kapellbrücke, a covered wooden bridge crossing diagonally across the Reuss, is Lucerne's most iconic landmark. Apart from being a gorgeous centerpiece for Lucerne, the bridge, erected in 1333, is notable for the more than 100 17th-century paintings representing patron saints and events from the town's history that hang from the roof rafters inside. Riding the cog train from the beaches of Lake Lucerne to an elevation of 1,798 meters on Mt Rigi is one of Switzerland's trademark experiences. This is Europe's first cog railway, and you may ride in rebuilt carriages that date back to the line's inception.
