May help relieve symptoms of achalasia
Achalasia is a disorder where the esophagus has trouble moving food down into your stomach. Achalasia affects the ability to swallow. People who have this condition may experience swallowing difficulties or the sensation that food is trapped in their esophagus.
Warm water may make people with achalasia's digestive system more comfortable. Hot water and steaming foods open up the gate of the esophagus to the stomach, making it easier for the foods and liquids to pass into the stomach. There is some evidence that suggests people with achalasia may find relief from their symptoms by bathing in warm water. Foods and drinks that are cold might exacerbate these contractions and worsen achalasia.
