May relieve nasal congestion
Steam is produced by boiling water in a cup. A cup of hot water held in your hand and a deep breath of this soothing vapor may help open up congested sinuses and even relieve sinus discomfort. Boiling water should be poured into a large bowl for faster relief. Lean over the bowl while wearing a towel over your head to inhale the steam. You can do this three to four times a day.
Drinking hot water will help warm your sinuses and throat because they both contain mucous membranes, which can ease a painful throat brought on by mucus buildup. A previous 2008 study found that a warm drink, such as tea, quickly and effectively relieved runny nose, coughing, sore throat, and fatigue.
