May improve oral health
Evidence suggests that using coconut oil as a mouthwash — a practice known as oil pulling — improves oral hygiene in a cost-effective manner. Swishing coconut oil in your mouth like mouthwash is what oil pulling entails. When compared to ordinary mouthwash, it may considerably lower the count of dangerous bacteria in the mouth, specifically S. mutans. This is assumed to be owing to lauric acid's antimicrobial effects.
Furthermore, the lauric acid in coconut oil combines with saliva to generate a soap-like material that helps prevent cavities, dental plaque development, and gum irritation. The review studies, however, point out that there is minimal data on this issue and that oil pulling does not substitute dental care. More study on the impact of oil pulling on oral health is required.
