Meryl Streep
Mary Louise "Meryl" Streep (born June 22, 1949) is an actress from the United States. Streep is frequently referred to as "the finest actress of her generation", and she is particularly well-known for her flexibility and accent adaptation. Throughout her four-decade career, she has received several honors, including a record 21 Academy Award nominations, three of which she has won, and a record 32 Golden Globe Award nominations, eight of which she has won. She has also won two British Academy Film Awards, two Screen Actors Guild Awards, three Primetime Emmy Awards, and has been nominated for a Tony Award and six Grammy Awards.
Nobody comes close to Meryl Streep when it comes to acting skill as measured by critical acclaim and award consideration. Her 21 career Oscar nominations are by far the most for any actress, and her three victories place her among the top. She's already received a lifetime achievement award from the AFI, despite the fact that she still has a lot of work to do on the big screen.
Streep has not only captured audiences in deadly serious dramas such as 1988's "A Cry in the Dark" and 1982's "Sophie's Choice", but she has also proven to be a master of lighter fare such as 1992's "Death Becomes Her" and 2008's "Mamma Mia!" Few performers of Streep's prominence have taken as many chances with their character choices.
