Monocle 24: The Urbanist
They launched Monocle magazine in 2007 to provide a briefing on global affairs, business, culture, design, and much more. We believed in a globally-minded audience of readers hungry for opportunities and experiences beyond their national borders. Today, Monocle is published ten times a year out of our HQs at Midori House and Dufourstrasse 90 in Zürich, and we now sell more than 80,000 copies per issue and have 24,000 subscribers growing.
Monocle editor Andrew Tuck of The Urbanist explores the subject of creating better cities. Episodes are dynamic and ever-changing, some zeroing in on topics such as Moscow’s trolleybuses, others looking at more prominent themes like the impacts of private development on public spaces. As a listener, you will be transported across the globe, often multiple times in a single episode. Still, you will always remain in the capable hands of one of Monocle’s internationally-based correspondents or local experts. The stories alternate between more extended, detail-heavy episodes and brief, poetic city portraits. It’s an informative and thoughtful show that will have you looking at cities a little bit differently—the Urbanist nominee in the Smartest Podcast category of the 2019 British Podcast awards.
