Moon Lovers: Scarlet Heart Ryeo (2016)
The South Korean television series Moon Lovers: Scarlet Heart Ryeo is based on the Chinese book Bu Bu Jing Xin. It aired on SBS every Monday and Tuesday at 22:00 (KST) from August 29 to November 1, 2016, for a total of 20 episodes. The series received an average countrywide rating of 7.6 percent for Nielsen Korea and 7.3 percent for TNMS and was deemed a failure due to its poor performance. The drama was apparently sold to the Chinese television channel Youku for more than $400,000 each episode, totaling more than $8 million, making it the most expensive Korean drama ever sold. Man to Man broke the record a few months later.
During a complete solar eclipse, Go Ha-jin (Lee Ji-eun), a 25-year-old lady from the twenty-first century, is transported back in time to the Goryeo Dynasty. She awakens in the year 941, in the body of Hae Soo, one of the numerous princes of the royal Wang family, during King Taejo's reign. She first falls in love with the mild and warm-hearted 8th Prince Wang Wook (Kang Ha-neul), but subsequently develops feelings for Wang So (Lee Joon-gi), the frightening 4th Prince who hides his face behind a mask and is labeled a "wolf-dog". As the plot progresses, Hae Soo becomes unknowingly entangled in royal intrigues and princely rivalries as they vie for the crown.
