Chang-seok, an author, returns to Korea after being divorced abroad and prepares to publish a novel based on his own life experience. He then encounters the aimless Mi-young in a cafe within a packed subway station in Euljiro, who recalls their meeting and their past together. Chang-seok also meets his editor, Yoo-jin, who enjoys a cigarette and reflects on her history with him. Next, he stumbles upon Sung-ha, a photographer who is caring for his ill wife. Finally, Chang-seok has a talk with bartender Joo-eun, who is trying to recall memories of her clientele who died in a vehicle accident.
When they meet, they explore somewhat different subjects, but they are linked by a similar sense of loss and insecurity as each character fights to remain sane in a society that inspires thoughts of existential dread. This marks Chang-seok and alters his feelings and thoughts, prompting him to begin composing yet another new novel.
