Museum of Fine Arts
The Museum of Fine Arts, a free public museum in Boston, is the 17th largest museum in the world and is home to approximately 450,000 works of art, which is one of the Best Art Galleries in Boston. The museum receives over a million visitors annually thanks to its extensive holdings, which include works of art from Africa and Oceania, the Americas, Egypt, pictures, musical instruments, and jewelry, among others.
The Museum of Fine Arts, also known as MFA Boston, was first founded in Copley Square in 1870 and later relocated to Fenway Park in 1909. It is one of the most regularly visited museums worldwide, not only in Boston. It was the 52nd most frequently visited art museum in the world as of 2019 and the 17th largest as well, with over 450,000 artworks and 8,161 paintings (second only to Metropolitan Museum of Art, NYC). It is associated with Tufts' School of the Museum of Fine Arts, which not only holds artwork, including paintings, drawings, jewelry, and instruments, but also organizes a number of shows.
