They collaborated to create a very special collaborative edition pen: Mystery Masterpiece that would serve as a symbol of not only their successes, but also of each company's craftsmanship and creativity, providing the world with a magnificent example that rolled two big names in the industry into one unique masterpiece that would become one of the most expensive pens.

While the two luxury houses may appear to be rivals or competitors, they share a similar history, despite being created in separate parts of the world. There are Montblanc devotees and Van Cleef & Arpels devotees, with some crossing the lines to enjoy the special uniqueness of both brands. Despite the fact that they are both well-known in their own right, the two decided on a design that included the expert placement of seventy high-quality precious stones to create a magnificent pattern that would be a one-of-a-kind creation for the Mystery Masterpiece's first edition, with more variants to follow in a strictly limited edition.
