Near

Near is the younger of L's two heirs, nurtured in Wammy's House in Winchester, England. Near begins his investigation of the Kira case after L's death, gathering information over a four-year span. Near submits his findings to the President of the United States, revealing himself to be the genuine heir to L.

Near is extremely intelligent, despite his young appearance and behavior, which may cause others to doubt his talents. He is obsessed with solving complex problems and sees every question as a puzzle to be solved. He is very sensitive as well.

He was once witnessed puzzling together a piece of wood that was almost entirely white. He is skilled at multitasking and can watch many computer screens at the same time. Near also looks to be bilingual since he throws needles with his left hand and rolls dice with his right.

Despite his intellectual ability, Near has no social awareness and struggles to engage with people. Near is characterized in Death Note 13: How to Read as being greatly quiet and stable. Although Near appears to be a serious person, he frequently smirks when he gets something right. He also does so frequently while trying to corner Light during their chats.
