Nyege Nyege Festival
Nyege Nyege, perhaps East Africa's largest music festival, is a four-day music extravaganza that attracts party-goers from all across the continent. This event, according to Nyege Nyege's originator, represents peace, love, and unlimited delight for Africa's underground musicians and musicians.
The lineup is primarily comprised of East African performers, many of whom are associated with Nyege Nyege Tapes. Juan Atkins, Suzi Analogue, and DJ Scotch Egg, all of whose music is influenced by African sounds, are among the musicians and DJs from beyond the continent. NTS, a British online radio station, sent DJs to the 2017 festival, and streaming platform Boiler Room has been hosting a stage since 2018.
Nyege Nyege Festival has drawn criticism from Uganda's religious leaders due to its ties to the LGBT community and tourist appeal. In 2016, locals printed brochures decrying the event, and in 2018, Uganda's minister of ethics attempted to cancel the event, stating it would "damage national integrity" and put residents "at risk of aberrant sexual immorality," but the minister of the interior overruled him.
