Parintins Folklore Festival
This is a three-day celebration held every year in the Parintins region. It's one of the country's most important annual festivals, right up there with the Rio de Janeiro Carnival. The festival's main attraction is the depiction of the mythology of the revived ox through folk music, folk dance, and colorful street parades. Parintins Folklore Festival, also known as Festival do Boi Bumba or Bumba Meu Boi, celebrates Amazonian folklore and culture. The healthy yet entertaining storytelling rivalry between two teams, Garantido and Caprichoso, distinguishes the Parintins Folklore Festival from the rest of the Brazil events.
During the ceremonies, learn about the mythological story of the revived ox and see the region's indigenous culture and folklore. Caprichoso and Garantido compete in narrating the Tale of the Ox through songs, dance performances, and a colorful cavalcade at the event. The event showcasing this local folklore will broaden your cultural understanding.
