Rio Carnival
Our list of the famous festivals in Brazil, of course, cannot overlook Rio Carnival. Carnival is one of Brazil's largest, oldest, and most famous festivals, held mostly in Rio de Janeiro. Other Brazilian cities, such as Salvador and Recife, also celebrate Carnival. Carnival was originally celebrated in 1830 as an outgrowth of the Portuguese tradition of celebrating and feasting on the day before Lent begins.
The week-long carnival, which features colorful street parades, samba dancing by locals dressed in bright outfits, and street parties known as blocos, brings everyone together to celebrate, enjoy, and tap their feet to local music. There are competitions for healthy samba dancing. The streets are brightly decorated, and everyone, locals and tourists alike, dress up in their brightest outfits to enjoy the festival atmosphere.
Every day, over two million people, both locals and visitors, enjoy the celebrations on the streets. Jive at the opulent Rio Carnival Ball, which is held in a variety of locations.
